Film actor and founder of the Nirapat Sarak Chai (NISCHA) movement, Ilyas Kanchan, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor. He has been undergoing treatment in London for five months. Ilyas Kanchan’s son Mirajul Islam Moin Joy gave this information in a video message at a press conference organized on the occasion of National Road Safety Day-2025 today.
Ilyas Kanchan had been suffering from various physical complications since the beginning of this year. When his condition deteriorated, his family members took him to the doctor. After various tests, it was learned that Ilyas Kanchan had a tumor in his head. Ilyas Kanchan went to London on April 26 for advanced treatment. He is undergoing treatment there.
In a video message from Canada, Mirajul Islam Moin Joy said, “My father would sometimes get stuck while talking. Sometimes he had difficulty remembering things from the past. After an MRI, it was learned that he was having such problems due to the tumor. I am praying for the health of my father from the countrymen.’
Mirajul Islam further said, ‘On April 13, I took my father to the National Institute of Neurosciences in Agargaon. The doctors there formed a board. They said that the tumor is located in a sensitive area at the junction of important nerves in the brain. We decided as a family to send him to London, where my sister lives. He left Dhaka for London on April 26.’
Miraj said that after reaching London, Ilias Kanchan started treatment at the Harley Street Clinic. After two long months of various tests, he underwent a head surgery under the leadership of Professor Demetrius at the Willingdon Hospital in London on August 5. The doctors said that the entire tumor could not be removed. There is a risk of paralysis including loss of life. The actor may lose his ability to move and speak. Therefore, the doctors removed some parts of the tumor with the permission of the family members. It was informed that the rest of the treatment will be done through radiation and chemotherapy.
Regarding Ilyas Kanchan’s physical condition, Mirajul Islam said, “My father’s chemotherapy will continue now. He will have to undergo radiation and chemotherapy for 30 days.” Mirajul Islam Moin said that the chemotherapy will continue for a total of six weeks, five days a week. After that, he will have to remain under the observation of doctors for another four weeks. Later, if the doctors give permission considering his physical condition, he will return home.
